Seventh European Cup

The Seventh European Cup, piece of the month on the Tour Bernabéu

Each month you will find a selection of the exhibits in the Museum and you will find out interesting facts about them.

On the 20th of May 1998, Real Madrid got their hands on their Seventh European Cup, just one year before the Bernabéu Museum opened its doors on the 20th of May 1999. Twenty years on, in May 2019, we're picking this trophy out as our article of the month.

When madridistas flock to the Tour Bernabéu to see La Séptima taking pride of place in the display, the first thing that will come to their minds is the final against Juventus in Amsterdam, in which Real Madrid ran out 1-0 winners thanks to a fine Pedja Mijatovic goal. The Whites enjoyed a prolonged spell of positive possession which finished with a long-range Roberto Carlos drive. The shot struck an opposition defender and landed at the feet of Mijatovic, who brought it swiftly under control, took it around the goalkeeper and netted the madridistas' winning goal.

The La Séptima win saw Real Madrid clinch their first European Cup under the new Champions League format to continue to add to their legendary status. Now, on the 20th Anniversary of the Bernabéu Museum, Real Madrid have won 13 European Cups and La Séptima is dominant in the centre of the display, reminding all madridista fans of Real Madrid's glorious history.
